I’m living in a city where everything is perfect, or at least this is how Dubai image is built. Most of the people I met while traveling around the world and asked me where I live have the same reaction “that must be amazing”. Indeed, it is amazing, and I call myself lucky to experience life with vision, but I have to say that sometimes it’s challenging to keep up with the “standards” that the city has created, is not even the city, the people living here did that. It’s all about the clothes you wear, the car you drive, your designation at work, or even the digits of your phone number.
I must say I was caught in this mind game for a very long time, always chasing for a better car, branded clothes or working crazy hours to make sure I have the right designation next to my name that will get me in the “right circles”.
Guess what happened few years later…Of course I realized that all these things are not who I am or what I want, most of the time I would feel lonely and fill up my time with activities or spending time with people that drain my energy. Started changing my routine, paying attention to what and who comes into my life from the time I open my eyes till I’ll go back to sleep. Slowly, I was removing activities or people that would exhaust me, replacing that with spending more time with people I love, activities I would enjoy, or just time with myself. I stopped making life all about what I have and more about who I am, I understood that with or without those material things I am still me and that’s not going to change.
It was not easy to do all those changes. Choosing to be authentic and accept myself exactly who I am with good and bad. Being surrounded by the people I love and appreciate, made me happier and healthier. A long journey but worth every tear and struggle.
Today I’m living on my own terms, doing what I love, still owning branded items and a beautiful car, creating the magic of who I AM!
